Hiyat is known as the gateway city to the Gogue Desert. The prized delicacy sandfruit originated in Dabooldagad, a Gogue village that dates back to prehistoric times. Gogue knives are handcrafted from bone by master craftsmen who practice an ancient art and usually live in small traditional villages. Both these products are shipped to the rest of the world from warehouses in Hiyat. Hiyat, in turn, supplies many desert communities with imported essentials such as water and seaweed.
